Η Πολιτιστική Ακαδημία «Άγιος Επιφάνιος», με τη στήριξη του Υφυπουργείου Πολιτισμού, πραγματοποιεί την έκθεση «"A Place of Glory. The Holy Monastery of the Apostle Barnaba. History - Legacy - Displacement. Η έκθεση παρουσιάζεται στον ιερό ναό Αγίας Άννας, στο Παραλίμνι, και εντάσσεται στις δράσεις μνήμης για τη συμπλήρωση 50 χρόνων από την τουρκική εισβολή του 1974.
The exhibition title "A Place of Glory. The Holy Monastery of the Saint Barnabas. History - Legacy - Displacement, stems from the synthesis of elements related to the figure of Apostle Barnabas and his monastery. Apostle Barnabas is described in his apolytikion (hymn) as "the great glory of Cyprus," and he is credited with the founding and the autocephaly (independence) of the Church of Cyprus. For centuries, the land of Cyprus held in its depths the martyr's body of Apostle Barnabas, buried in a "hidden place" between ancient Enkomi and historic Salamis. This location was known as the "Place of Health." The discovery of the site and the relics of the Apostle, from the 5th century onwards, established Cyprus and the site as "glorious apostolic places," marking the beginning of the monastery's history.
The place is connected to the history—political, ecclesiastical, cultural—the identity, and the heritage of Cyprus itself. It has experienced periods of prosperity and flourishing, abandonment and desolation, conquest and occupation. Apostles, Byzantine emperors, ecclesiastical figures, monks and abbots, officials, historians, antiquarians, foreign travelers, archaeologists and excavators, writers, theologians, and folklorists, both local and foreign, pilgrims, tourists, artists, photographers, and journalists, children, men and women of all ages, both known and unknown, contribute pieces to the mosaic that shapes the complex and at the same time experiential narrative of the monastery.
We bring to the exhibition some of the impressions and depictions from all these individuals and invite you on a journey through the glorious placethe Monastery of Saint Barnabas, through the centuries.
We invite you to discover the placesymbol, to either remember or get to know it.
The place that has been and still is:
"A Place of Glory."
An apostolic place - A place of martyrdom
A place "of health" - A place of revelation
A place of a monastic community
A place of pilgrims
A place of feast
A place of creation
A place of visit
A place of the refugees
A place of hope.
An occupied place that its history - a reflection of the history of Cyprus- will continue, since "we never forget." So that we can continue to hope..
